Little Ones
Big Ones
I sprained my knee on Friday.
And I really didn't feel like cooking breakfast on Sunday.
So I decided to take my daughter to Big Boy for a late breakfast.
For those of you unfamiliar with Big Boy, think of Shoney's.
This Big Boy is located near the freeway next to a Hooter's.
B-girl likes this particular Big Boy because the breakfast bar includes fresh grapes.
In all the time we have been going there, she has never mentioned
the establishment next door.
Until today...
As we pull up to the Big boy in the car, it goes like this:
"Mom can we go to Hooters instead?"
Me gasping for air because I didn't realize should knew the name.
"No!" I said. "We are going to Big Boy's"
"Is the Hooter's open? she asked. "Can we have brunch there?
"No," I said. "They don't serve brunch"
"Then why are all those cars there? she asked
"Those are the employees" I rationalize
"But I want to go to Hooters" she said.
"Why, Why do you think you want to go there?" I asked curious as all get out.
"Because it is a store, and I like to shop," she said sweetly. "They have that owl there and I think they sell animal stuff."
"They may have a few animals come and go, but it is not a store," I manage to stammer.
"But the parking lot is always full, so I thought it must be good place to go" she reasons.
Just as exasperation sets in one of her favorite songs comes on Radio Disney.
"Good Deal!" I thought
as she began singing that high school musical song
and forgetting the conversation at hand.
That's the best part of having a little person.
Sometimes they move on to other things quickly,
thereby
giving their parents
little reprieves
and time to think
of the perfect little
explanation
before
the
next time
you pass by
Hooters.
