clap
clap
clap
clap your
hands

So, I got up early on Saturday

Made the B-girl her favorite...

eggs, bacon, toast and fresh fruit.

I had everything ready

when she awoke.

She seem pleased.

As I was washing the pans

I heard clapping.

She clapped and clapped.

My heart was overjoyed that

I had been able to make her so happy

in such a simple way.

And, finally, I was receiving

the applause I deserved.

Then I heard her little voice...

"Mom, when I clap

that means I need you.

Please

get me

something

to

drink"

Heros and Daughters Dance
This year Uncle Dean took the B-girl to the Dads and Daughters Dance, You may remember Uncle Rob took her last year. These uncles are heros in my book.
Like last year, the B-girl had a great time. Uncle Dean has raised two boys who are now college age so I bet it was a real trip for him!
If you look at the pic from last year, she seems to have grown up too much in only one year.
In more ways than one...
The dance is sponsored by the Parks and Recreation dept. in the Spin City where I work. In fact, I had the chance to work the dance. When I asked the B-girl if I should work at the dance she said
"Please Mom, don't go there,
It would be too embarrassing!
None of the other mothers are going to be there."
(I thought they were older than seven when they begin to believe their parents embarass them at every opportunity).
So I backed off and let her go on her way
without
any embarrassments.

Baby
it's cold outside

It is too cold in Michigan right now.

Temperatures are hovering around zero at night

and not much higher during the day.

As a friend put it so eloquently,

"This weather is uncivilized."
I couldn't agree more!

let
freedom
bang

Me, the tired single mom to my kid who is banging on a a tin lid like it is a drum

"Stop making that noise"

My seven year old student of the public schools

"I am a citizen of the United States and I am free so I can do whatever I want"

Me (juices flowing after such insubordination)

"You have been born a citizen of the United States--lucky you--but you are not free.

You are my charge until you are eighteen and that means no democracy but dictatorship.

You will do what your mother says or suffer the consequences.

You will not be free until you are eighteen and

if I pay for your college you will not be free until you are 22."

Child that stopped making noise

"I do not understand what you said but I am going to ask my teacher at school if I am free."

Me

"If those people at school

tell you

you are free

remember that

sooner

or

later

you have

to come

home

to

me."
